Fronto-orbital Advancement

Using craniofacial techniques, the frontal bone and bone of the upper part of the eye sockets may be removed and then reshaped on a side table. It is then replaced in the desired position. In this case, the cranial cavity was too small causing raised intracranial pressure. This may lead to developmental delay and blindness.

Advancing the frontal part of the skull would leave a bone gap behind it and so I have split the skull into 2 layers and used the inner layer to cover this “soft spot”. Note the position of the nasal root preoperatively. I have placed bone grafts from the ribs into the nose to augment it.
